As Producer Duane Parham and Songwriter Dr. Mamie Smith approached launching the song "Voices Whispering in the Wind," several questions popped in their heads: How will it be received? Will people understand the intended message? Will it inspire someone to change course and allow the "winds of the mind" to seek new thoughts, positive actions and gain satisfaction with each small step that leads to the established mental goal?

Voices Whispering in the Wind Pondered

Meditation can lead to higher levels of thought that bring positive direction.

Meditation and pondering can lead to higher levels of thought-thoughts that map out a pathway to achieve a goal. In this situation, the goal is to acquire an answer as to whether "Voices Whispering in the Wind" will be received positively or negatively. Such a question indicates mental turmoil with the persons posing the questions. Therefore, handling the turmoil is the mental need that must be met. How can this be accomplished? Lifting thinking above the "what ifs," is the beginning point.

True meditation says, "It is not important what someone else believes or thinks that gives a person a sense of peace, but what higher levels of thought reveals to the person meditating.

Inner peace comes from a sense of right, and the ability to "look in the mirror without ducking." Pondering these statements generated another question: Do you believe you did the right thing in writing the song? After contemplation, the answer was a resounding "yes!" Why? Because the words and music grew out of a stillness of thought--a stillness that directed each idea, word and note. The only thing left for both writer and producer, was to be obedient to the voices directing their actions.

Every individual has a conscious, and when that conscious rises above materialistic beliefs, harmony is achieved. Thus, the question becomes, "What is better than inner peace--a peace that moves beyond human expression?"

Understanding the Message

The second question is: Will listeners understand the message of the song? Some will, others will not. Mankind understands what it believes. Each person is the sum total of his experiences, human or divine. Human experiences serve as a blueprint of the mind that understands and directs the actions that follow. "Man cannot demonstrate what he does not understand."

The same holds true for divine experiences. Working in the atmosphere of Spirit, gives one the experience of "living spiritually." For example, the life of Jesus was governed by his "oneness with God." Thus, no man achieved the level of spirituality he demonstrated. Each experience moved him closer to God. The same is true today. If we do not practice "loving our neighbors as ourselves," we will not love them as ourselves. Selfishness will demand we put ourselves first, and everybody else, last. The more spirituality is practiced, the better it is demonstrated. Thus, the answer becomes, if God guides you to do something, do it and leave the rest to Him.

"Voices Whispering in the Wind" as an Inspiration to Others

Inspiration comes from within, not without.

Will the song inspire others? Inspiration comes from Soul. Its beauty lies in its ability to connect with truth, honesty, wisdom and unconditional love. Enlightenment flows naturally, undisturbed by money, power, recognition or control--recognizing that true revelation is not learned, it's felt. "Voices Whispering in the Wind" emerged from the songwriter's desire to be obedient to the mental messages revealed to her. Therefore, those ready to receive the message of the song, will do so.

"Voices Whispering in the Wind" is a metaphor for beliefs and actions without focus or direction.

Finally, both songwriter and producer of "Voices Whispering in the Wind" concluded that each day is an opportunity to touch the world with their deepest understanding of Life, Truth and Love. That understanding guided them in using their talents and musicianship to bring the song to fruition. Where it led, they followed, pushing out doubts and fears.

So today, wisdom explains: the song will find its rightful place in history whether the world recognizes it or not.

The light of truth shines very bright,

It's not a partner of the night,

Darkness comes before the dawn,

Faith is there to keep you warm.
